How to Add CSS in WordPress

CSS or Cascading Style Sheet is the coding language that styles your website.

If you want to customize the design of your WordPress theme, then editing the HTML or adding CSS is the answer.

In this post, I’ll show you how to add CSS in WordPress.

Method 1: Using the Theme Customizer

You can add CSS in WordPress using the customizer.

To get to this option, navigate to “Appearance” and then “Customize” in the WordPress admin.

Once you’re done adding your custom CSS, click “Publish“.

NOTE: If this is the option you decide to take and then you want to change themes in the future, make sure you copy the CSS you use so you can it on your new theme as this option only saves the CSS for the currently active theme.

Method 2: Using a WordPress Plugin

If for whatever reason you’d rather not use the above method, don’t sweat it.

You can use a plugin to add CSS instead.

Goto “Plugins” and “Add New” in the WordPress admin and type “simple custom css” or you can download Simple Custom CSS from the WordPress plugin directory.

Save your CSS code by clicking the Update Custom CSS button.

Conclusion

Using the plugin option is handy if you want to change your theme as the settings are saved in the plugin, so you won’t lose your changes.

Note that even though the CSS code is saved in the plugin, if you change themes, your old CSS might not work with the new theme, so you’ll need to update the code to match the selectors.
